Will probably get dash video tomorrow, but for now, be content with my overkill anchor shackles for the tow strap . Rated for 6.5 tons, I picked ‘em up at Dunlap Industrial Tools at the waterfront (which happened to be next door to the boat launch). Intentionally chose the ones with retaining pins so the bolts don’t back out at all.

That’s my monthly supply. I keep it in the trunk all the time. I grabbed three cans to bring inside for the weekend, though.

What are you towing?

Because you’re smarter that trying to snatch/recover with that thing right?

It’s part of my slowly-assembling recovery kit. Figured that with the storm hitting today, that I should have it handy in the absolute worst case (which is unlikely since I have Blizzaks).

Plus, once I get this , I’ll be able to do proper tows/recovery pulls with the shackle without having to worry about directly yanking on my frame.

Tow strap has a time and place, they make great tree straps as well, I carry one.

But you know those youtubes where they rip the bumper right off the car on the snow? Yep, that’s a tow strap used for recovery..

I’m aware. And I don’t plan on doing yanks like that. It’s more or less for getting cars out of snowdrifts, et cetera. If the car’s stuck real good after gentle application of pressure on the tow strap (up to a certain point), then yeah I’m not willing to damage the car just to get someone’s poorly-configured vehicle out from between a rock and a hard place.

Also, dip-ass put that strap on the bumper frame, not the vehicle frame. That was a colossal fuck-up. (Bumper frames are for absorbing impact damage, not towing)

Another thing to keep in mind if you are playing saviour- you hook up your car /  they hook up theirs. It’s not 100% but if they end up wrekt it isn’t directly by your hands.

Yeah and I’m going to have them agree that any work done to free their vehicle is released from any and all liability — planning on getting little brochures printed out for this purpose once my car is fully kitted for roadside recovery/assistance.

If they don’t sign the brochure that details what I can do for them and what I can’t do for them, as well as releasing me from liability , then I can’t help them. It’s that simple.
